A Community Development District 6 supervisor on Friday called for Villagers to keep their lampposts illuminated at night.
“I am looking at it from a public safety standpoint,” said Peter Moeller, a resident of the Village of Caroline.
His call received little backing from his fellow CDD 6 supervisors.
“Bulbs go out. Sensors go out. It would be a nightmare for Community Standards to try to enforce,” said CDD 6 Supervisor Linda Grzesik.
It was also suggested that many residents turn off their lampposts because they find the light intrusive in their homes.
District Counsel Valerie Fuchs said the CDDs don’t have the authority to tell residents they must turn on their lampposts, which are a requirement for homes.
“We cannot add an extra requirement for residents,” Fuchs said.
