The Baker House will soon be home to a new historical marker.
The Timucua Chapter of the Colonial Dames of 17th Century will be presenting the honor on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. at the 130-year-old house, which is located at 6106 County Road 44A in Wildwood.
Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony and guests will enjoy a brief tour of the home, which originally was owned by Florida State Sen. David Hume Baker in 1898 and has been lived in by six generations of Bakers over the years.
The Colonial Dames is a lineage society where one can trace their roots to an ancestor that lived in the American colonies prior to1701. One of the objects of the society is to aid in the preservation of records and of historic sites.
The organization offered praise to the City of Wildwood for taking pride in having the Baker House in the community. And it pointed out that homes like the historic building often don’t survive the test of time.
“Having this jewel still standing surrounded by modern life and to be transported back in time is a breath of fresh air for all that visit this ‘Grand Lady,’” the Colonial Dames said in a press release announcing the placing of the historic marker.
Those interested in attending the event are asked to RSVP to Beverly Gentry at Timucua26@gmail.com.
A Victorian tea party also will be held at 1 p.m. to benefit the Baker House restoration fund. For more information and tickets call (352) 461-0134.
