To the Editor:
There is an important meeting on May 13 at 4:30 at the Savannah Center.
The meeting involves the election of a District 3 representative to the SECO Board of Trustees.
This meeting is important in that electric utilities are facing constant and changing rules and requirements mostly established by politicians who have very little understanding of how an electric utility operates.
Working through these regulations while providing power at a reasonable rate is a complex problem. It requires a close relationship between the Board of Trustees, the CEO and employees. Good service does not just happen!
I served on the SECO Board of Trustees for eight years. I resigned when I moved out of the District.
I have moved back in the District, and I believe that my experience would enable me to immediately move on to the SECO Board without the need to catch up on the various problems facing utilities. In addition, I was a city/county manager for 42 years. As a local government executive, I was faced with numerous difficult requirements that were placed on local governments by state and federal regulations.
Local governments have no powers to operate except that given by the state. Those requirements change every year, but the operation of a city or county must continue. I have experience in working through the problems created including that on various utilities that cities and counties operate.
The election voting begins at 4:30 p.m. on May 13. The voting will continue through a SECO Board of Trustees meeting that begins at 6 .m. Once the chairman of the board declares the meeting over, the voting ends. You may make the voting process easier if you bring a copy of your SECO bill with you. There is only one vote per household, and you must vote at the Savannah Center on the 13th. If you can come and vote – hopefully for me, it will be greatly appreciated.
