Villager ticketed after causing head injury to pedestrian she hit with SUV

A Villager continues to recover from a head injury suffered after being hit by an SUV last week in the Village of Dunedin.

Polly Bates, 70, of the Village of Dunedin, had been walking at 9:20 a.m. April 15 at Hillsborough Trail and Valleybrook Way when she was struck by a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 73-year-old Rhonda Rae Marcukaitis, who also lives in the Village of Dunedin, according to an accident report released Wednesday by the Florida Highway Patrol. Marcukaitis had been northbound on Valleybrook Way when she “failed to observe” Bates, the report said. Marcukaitis had been attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Hillsborough Trail.

Bates was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center. She is now recovering at home.

Marcukaitis was ticketed for running a stop sign.
