Sumter sheriff’s detectives searching for thief who stole car from Webster convenience store

Sumter County sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help in catching a car thief.

Detective say that on April 29 at about 9:15 p.m., the bandit shown in the surveillance video above stole a 2006 gray Ford Taurus from the Croom Store, located at 4120 County Road 656 in Webster.

The victim left the vehicle running and after she entered the store, the man took the vehicle and left the parking lot traveling toward County Road 683, a sheriff’s office report says.

The vehicle’s VIN is 1FAFP53U86A181617 and the tag assigned is L880LP. Anyone with information on the man or the crime is asked to Det. Donald Fender at (352) 569-1679 or (352) 303-4153. Those wishing to leave anonymous tips can call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) and reference case number 2187.
