Villager’s son tells police ‘Let me call my mom’ during latest arrest

Keith Barnum

A Villager’s 40-year-old son told police officers, “Let me call my mom,” during his second arrest in less than a week.

Lady Lake police were called in the wee hours Friday morning to the Circle K at 3 La Grande Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages after 40-year-old Keith Barnum showed up in defiance of a previous trespass order.

A 19-year-old clerk on duty at the Circle K confronted Barnum and ordered him to leave, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Barnum walked outside to the gas pumps and began talking to a customer. While the clerk was on the phone with law enforcement, Barnum called the store’s phone. The clerk reminded Barnum he was not allowed on the premises and hung up.

Police officers soon arrived on the scene.

“I know I am in trouble, let me call my mom,” Barnum told the officers.

Barnum’s mother arrived and took her golf cart in which Barnum had been traveling, as well as her credit card, which he had.

Barnum was arrested on trespassing charges and booked at the Lake County Jail.

Barnum had been booked at and released from the jail two days earlier after his arrest at Gator’s Dockside at Spanish Springs Town Square.
