Popular daytime cafe coming to Trailwinds Village

A First Watch Cafe is among new businesses planned for Trailwinds Village, north of County Road 466A across from Pinellas Plaza.

First Watch Cafe has a location at Spanish Plaines in The Villages.

Billed as a “daytime cafe,” First Watch serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Founded in 1963 in Pacific Grove, Calif., the restaurant chain, now based in Florida, has 6,000 employees at 200 locations in 26 states. The nearest current location is on Bella Cruz Drive at Spanish Plaines in The Villages.

Among other businesses coming to Trailwinds are Heartland Dental, Spectrum, Verizon and Remax, according to the website of Barclay Group, the Trailwinds developer.

Wendy’s and Taco Bell also are slated to open next to Burger King. A Publix food store is expected to be built behind Aldi’s. Current businesses also include Lowe’s Home Improvement, Circle K, Jersey Mike’s and ABC Liquors.

Earlier this spring, Ocala Health announced it will open a $13 million emergency medical facility at Trailwinds with construction expected to begin this fall.

Wildwood commissioners recently approved  a 425-unit apartment complex planned behind Lowe’s, despite protests from residents of the Village of Tamarind Grove. An assisted living center also is planned on the eastern end of the property.

The Trailwinds developer also will receive a small refund of $76,498 on its $1.8-million investment for sewer and water line extensions, plus a $60,204 reimbursement for lift station repairs. The money comes from development fees for the adjacent Beaumont property, which also will be using the sewer and water extensions.

The Beaumont Community Development District, northeast of county roads 466A and 462, will have 1,298 dwelling units, 174,240 square feet of institutional space and 544,500 square feet of commercial space. Land clearing for the project is well under way.
