Bloodied Spruce Creek South woman makes frantic call for help after attack

Multiple Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a Spruce Creek South home on Wednesday and when they arrived, they found a bloodied woman on the phone frantically pacing back and forth in her front yard.

The woman, who is over the age of 65 and had a roughly two-inch-long laceration under her left eye socket, told deputies that a man who lives in the house with her had approached her in an aggressive manner and started yelling at her. She said he then forcibly pushed her onto a couch and started punching her in the face while using profanity, a sheriff’s office report states.

The woman said the man, who already had left the residence, would block her arms and continue to strike her in the face as she tried to defend herself. She said he finally stopped hitting her when he realized she was bleeding from the open wound. She said he then went into his room and slammed the door, the report says, adding that the woman ran next door to call 911 for help.

After deputies confirmed that the man was no longer at the residence on SE 173rd Lane, a sheriff’s helicopter and a K-9 unit joined in the search. The K-9 dog attempted to track the man with negative results, the report says.

A crew from Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the home and provided treatment to the woman. They recommended that she be transported to a local hospital to confirm if the laceration needed stitches.
