Fruitland Park commissioners bless plan to make Villages intersection four-way stop

Fruitland Park commissioners unanimously approved an ordinance Thursday night that would put a new stop sign on a Villages roadway.

The intersection of Conservation Trail and Kauska Way, at the entrance to The Preserve in the Village of Pine Hills, will soon become a four-way stop.

The ordinance, at the recommendation of Police Chief Erik Luce, calls for making the intersection of Conservation Trail and Kauska Way a four-way stop. Currently, only traffic on Conservation Trail approaching the intersection, in the Village of Pine Hills at the entrance to The Preserve, is required to stop.

City Manager Gary La Venia said residents who live off Conservation Trail brought the issue to the commission and it was determined that it was a dangerous intersection, used by both cars and golf carts, that needed to become a four-way stop.

“We patrolled it,” he said. “The police have been out there and they identified it as an issue.”
