Man arrested after altercation over photo of license plate at Publix in the Villages

Kerry Douglas Bunnell

A man was arrested after an attack over a photo of his license plate at a Publix grocery store in The Villages.

A man told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies that he was parked in a handicapped spot at Publix at Spanish Plaines shopping center shortly after 5 p.m. Monday when he noticed a black Saturn chasing a white Lincoln SUV. The man said the vehicles made several laps around the parking lot. The driver of the Saturn, later identified as 18-year-old Kerry Douglas Bunnell, of Ocklawaha, yelled obscenities at the occupants of the other vehicle and flipped his middle finger at them. Bunnell also threw items at the occupants of the Lincoln SUV.

The witness went over and attempted to take a picture of the Saturn’s license plate, prompting Bunnell to begin yelling at him. Bunnell threw a plastic bottle at the witness, hitting him on the right side of the lip. The witness was able to identify Bunnell.

He was arrested on a charge of battery on a person over the age of 65 and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,000.
