Burger Station a casualty as Shell station opts not to renew lease at Colony Plaza

The Burger Station restaurant will be a closure casualty as the operator of the Shell station opted not to renew his lease at Colony Plaza.

Burger Station owner Don Hickey will operate the eatery for the last time on Friday, June 28. He has been running the Burger Station restaurant for seven years at the golf cart accessible gas station at the far eastern end of The Villages.

“I hand-pick the lettuce and tomatoes at the store,” Hickey said in a 2018 interview with Villages-News.com. “We bread the never-frozen pork tenderloin every day. It’s like comfort food for Midwesterners.”

In that same interview, Hickey gave credit for much of his success to Linda, his business and life partner who has been behind the restaurant counter every day.

Villagers enjoy a meal at the Burger Station.

Where he goes next remains to be seen.

Attempts to contact the operator of Colony Plaza Shell were unsuccessful.
