A landscaper’s trailer that got stuck on the railroad tracks was struck Thursday afternoon by a CSX locomotive in Oxford.
The Luke’s Landscape of The Villages trailer had been towed by a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup before it got stuck at 2:30 p.m. on the railroad tracks near the intersection of County Road 110 and NE 42nd Boulevard, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Two men who had been traveling in the truck were able to get out while the trailer remained on the tracks. They had unsuccessfully tried to free the trailer from the tracks. The men fled to a safe location prior to the arrival of the train.
The CSX locomotive towing 76 railcars struck the trailer and the rear of the truck. The train was then brought to a controlled stop.
There were no injuries.
