Lightning strike knocks hole in roof of Village of Fenney home

Lightning struck a Village of Fenney home late Saturday afternoon as heavy thunderstorms moved through the area.

Crews from The Villages Public Safety Department scrambled to the residence in the 5600 block of Sea Grapes Way shortly after 4 p.m. and when they arrived, they discovered an 8-inch-wide hole in the home’s roof.

The lightning strike didn’t cause a fire and the interior of the home didn’t appear to be damaged. An hour after the initial call for help, the ladder going to the attic was still down in the garage, but fire crews already had left the scene and the neighborhood had returned to normal.
