Coleman prison employee arrested after alleged attack on mother of his child

An employee at the Coleman Federal Prison was arrested after allegedly attacking the mother of his child and leaving her with a swollen eye.

Law enforcement was called at 11:30 a.m. Monday to Heather Oaks, where 33-year-old Byron Aikens was taken into custody, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

A woman who had “a swollen right eye with fresh bruising around the eye socket which would be consistent with a strike to the face” said Aikens had grabbed her by the neck and struck her in the face. She was able to break free and get away.

The report noted that the woman and Aikens have a child together and that Aikens is employed at Coleman Federal Prison.

He was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and booked at the Lake County Jail, where he was initially held without bond.
