Man arrested after buying $699 necklace at Brownwood then pawning it

Kevin Ervast

A man was arrested after buying a $699 gold necklace at a jewelry store at Brownwood Paddock Square and then pawning it.

Kevin Ervast, 49, of Orlando, entered Brownwood Jewelers at about 2 p.m. Tuesday and used a woman’s credit card, identifying himself as her boyfriend, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

The woman contacted the store to report that Ervast did not have permission to use her credit card.

Ervast admitted to police he had pawned the necklace at a pawn shop in Leesburg and used the credit card six other times. Five gift debit cards were found in Ervast’s wallet. He also had $450 in cash. He was in possession of a brand new pair of Nike sneakers and those were taken as evidence.

Ervast was arrested on felony charges of fraud and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $7,000.
