A former Villages High School football standout has been sentenced to jail time following his latest arrest.
Nigel Barker, 25, of Ocala, on Monday in Sumter County Court was sentenced to three days in jail after pleading no contest to a charge of resisting arrest.
Barker, who had been a member of the VHS Class of 2012 and played running back and cornerback for the Buffalo, was arrested this past April 13. He had been driving a blue Chevrolet truck on County Road 235 in Wildwood when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull him over. Barker sped up before pulling into a driveway at 443 County Road 222. He pulled into the rear of the residence and attempted to enter it, despite being told by law enforcement to return to his vehicle. After being threatened with a Taser, Barker finally complied with the deputy’s commands.
Barker had been arrested in 2017 after allegedly striking and then choking a woman. Barker was also arrested for domestic battery in 2015.
