Sumter sheriff searching for bandit who burglarized vehicle in The Villages

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a thief who burglarized a vehicle near Lake Sumter Landing.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a thief who targeted a vehicle in The Villages and was driving a silver Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Sheriff’s officials say a white man with a slim build entered a Villages neighborhood near the popular downtown area this past Sunday and stole several items from a vehicle.
The bandit’s vehicle is described as a silver Ford Ranger pickup with an extended cab and a sticker on the left side of the tailgate that reads, “Shut up and fish.” The passenger-side headlamp was inoperable at the time of theft and it appears there was a plastic cover over the license plate, a sheriff’s office report states.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the thief is asked to contact Detective J. Binegar at (352) 793-2621 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
