Couple jailed after drinking at Brownwood subpoena each other for next round in court

Susan Kendra Walker

A man and and a woman arrested after a brawl broke out after drinking at Brownwood are taking their next round to court.

The couple, 48-year-old Susan Kendra Walker and 33-year-old Michael Patrick Duffy, are both charged with battery and have subpoenaed each other to testify in their respective court cases.

The couple of two years had been drinking July 18 at a bar at Brownwood Paddock Square when they got into a car to return to their home in the Southern Star Villas in the Village of St. James.

Michael Patrick Duffy

Walker admitted she threw a drink at Duffy, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The Tennessee native also struck Duffy in the upper lip, leaving him with a laceration. She claimed it was in self-defense.

She packed up her belongings, put them in the car and waited outside the villa, which is owned by Duffy’s parents, who live in the Village of Sabal Chase. After “an extended period” she re-entered the villa, prompting Duffy, who stands in excess of six feet tall and weighs 240 pounds, to grab Walker by the hair and drag her out of the house, the report said.

Both have pleaded not guilty and remain free on bond. Subpoenas were executed for each of them on Aug. 12, according to Sumter County Court records.
