A local lineman who was arrested this summer after he threatened to cut off the power to a deputy’s home has been ordered to stay away from booze and write a letter of apology to the deputy.
Brandon John McCann, 22, of Summerfield, was arrested on a drunk driving charge after his pickup truck was spotted traveling at 110 miles per hour at 2:43 a.m. June 22 on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Leesburg. When McCann was being driven to the jail after his arrest, he became “very belligerent and argumentative,” the arrest report said. He offered the deputy money in exchange for not being booked at the jail. When that didn’t work, McCann allegedly threatened the deputy.
“He was going to find my place of residency and use his position as a lineman for a power company to turn off the power to my house,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.
Last week in Lake County Court, McCann was sentenced in the case. He will lose his driver’s license for six months, he has been placed on probation for one year, told not to possess or consume alcohol and ordered to perform 70 hours of community service. He has also been ordered by the judge to write a letter of apology to the deputy who made the arrest.
