A suspect has been arrested in the theft of a Villager’s bicycle from his home on the Historic Side.

The Motobecane Fantom 29 bicycle had been stolen in May from the screened-in porch of the man’s home in the 1400 block of West Schwartz Blvd. The bicycle was found in June at an abandoned home on Hibiscus Street in Lady Lake. The bicycle was positively identified by its owner.

Joshua Teate, 40, was found at the home on Hibiscus Street and told police he had purchased the bicycle in Marion County. He was not arrested at the time, but a warrant was later issue for his arrest.

Teate was spotted Sunday night walking in an “area of known drug houses” in Fruitland Park. A police officer made contact with Teate and discovered he was wanted on the Lake County warrant for the theft of the bicycle. When Teate was taken into custody and placed in the back seat of a patrol car, he admitted he was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $4,500 bond.
