A man passed a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for dog treats at a local pet store.
The man, who was wearing a baseball hat, entered the Petsmart store at Village Crossroads at about 4:30 p.m. Sept. 5 and purchased Simply Nourished dog treats for $6.41 with the bogus $100 bill, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
Managers later looked at the bill and were concerned it might be counterfeit. The bill was taken to a local Wells Fargo bank, where a bank representative confirmed the $100 bill was fake.
The Petsmart manager indicated the store would like to press charges if the man is found.
