A suspect in the theft of golf carts in The Villages is facing new charges after allegedly pawning Silver Eagle coins.
Joshua Steven Mitchell, 22, of Wildwood, was being held on $60,000 bond following his arrest this week on charges of burglary, larceny and dealing in stolen property.
Mitchell had been released from the Sumter County Detention Center on July 31 following his arrest in connection with the theft of a silver Yamaha golf cart from The Villages Golf Cars at Brownwood and the theft of a golf cart from Lowe’s. Those cases are pending in Sumter County Court.
A Sumter County sheriff’s detective on Wednesday picked Mitchell up at his home and took him to the Coconuts Pawn Shop in Wildwood, where a clerk identified him as the person who had pawned Silver Eagle coins.
Mitchell entered a home and stole 100 of the Silver Eagle coins and a .22-caliber Derringer pistol from a safe, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
