An Oxford man who was spotted in a vehicle leaving a handicapped spot without a proper placard displayed was arrested early Saturday morning in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in The Villages.
A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy saw 21-year-old Julius Dion Shuler, of Oxford, riding the vehicle as it left parking lot of the store, located at 4085 Wedgewood Ln., and knew that he had an outstanding warrant. The deputy stopped the vehicle and Shuler provided him with a different name but used his correct date of birth, Sumter County sheriff’s report states.
Shuler said he had no identification and didn’t know his Social Security number. The deputy instructed him to write his legal name in a notebook and he wrote down the false name with his actual date of birth, the report says.
The deputy eventually was able to identify Shuler, as well as his correct birth date. A computer checked showed that he had an outstanding warrant, so he was taken into custody and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center.
Shuler was charged with giving false information to a law enforcement officer and a probation violation. He was being held without bond.
