Frankie Brin Financial comes up short in Lakeland softball tournament

Frankie Brin Financial (FBF) 74’s took part this past weekend in the Slide into Fall Florida Half-Century Tournament in Lakeland.

Frankie Brin, of The Villages, played in the top bracket of the 74’s in a 3-team field (FBF, Venom, and Chadwell Supply). Frankie Brin went 1-2 in a rain-shortened tournament, with Venom going 3-0 to win the bracket.

The score of the first game on Saturday against Venom was 9-9 after five innings. Venom scored four runs in the sixth inning and after an injury to a FBF player and a 45-minute delay, the wheels came off and Venom scored 15 runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Saturday scores were: Venom 28, FBF 74’s 11; FBF 74’s 13, Chadwell Supply 8. Sunday’s score was: Venom 17, FBF 74’s 6.

The leading hitters for Frankie Brin Financial 74’s were: Tom McGann (.750) 3-4, Bob Buchanan, Dick Kanyan and Rod Severson (.727), and Victor Nucatola and Dave Sellars (.600).
