Fines are looming as punishment for overgrown grass and weeds at a home in The Villages where the utilities have been turned off.
The home, owned by Ashbert and Joyce Brinson at 524 Rainbow Blvd. in the Village of Silver Lake, was the subject of a public hearing Wednesday afternoon before the Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors.
A complaint about overgrown grass and weeds was received Aug. 4 by Community Standards and verified the following day.
Community Standards staff members have been unsuccessful in attempts to contact Brinson. In addition to the utilities being turned off, the property taxes have not been paid for 2018. There does not appear to be a mortgage on the property. The manufactured home was built in 1988.
The VCCDD board found Brinson in violation of deed compliance rules and ordered her to bring the property into compliance within three days. If the property is not brought into compliance, she will be fined $250 and then fined $250 each time the District is forced to maintain the property.
The Town of Lady Lake also has launched a code enforcement case against the property. A hearing before a special magistrate has been set for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 22 at Lady Lake Town Hall.
