Lady Lake man jailed after fight with woman on their way to church

Austin Jones Warne

A man was jailed after a fight with a woman on their way to church.

Austin Jones Warne, 20, of Lady Lake, had been driving with the woman at 11:40 a.m. Saturday on their way to the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Lake Griffin Road, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. They got into an altercation in their vehicle and the woman attempted to get out of the car at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Lemon Street. Warne grabbed the woman’s left wrist in an attempt to keep her in the car. The woman told police that Warne also slapped her thigh and shoulder in an effort to stop her from getting out.

When they got to the church, the man put his hands around her neck and threatened to kill her, the report said. He then left in the vehicle, leaving her behind. That’s when law enforcement was summoned to the church.

Warne was found by police at his home at 37403 Hobby Lane.

“I messed up, I put my hands on her,” he said.

He was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
