A Villager was arrested after allegedly stealing flowers from a memorial bench.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office had received several complaints about theft and destruction of property at the postal station in the Village of Belvedere. The sheriff’s office set up a surveillance camera in order to attempt to catch the perpetrator.

The owner of a memorial bench near the postal station told deputies that flowers had been taken from the bench on Oct. 20. The flowers had been secured to the bench with a wire. This past Friday, a second set of flowers went missing from the bench. Both floral arrangements were identical and consisted of orange and yellow silk flowers.

The surveillance footage led law enforcement to the home of 62-year-old Dolores Ann Lezott, who lives at 413 Rose Croft Terrace in the Village of Belvedere. She confirmed it was her in the surveillance video and said she threw the flowers in the trash.

Lezott was arrested on two counts of theft and two counts of criminal mischief. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $3,000 bond.

Lezott was arrested in August after allegedly egging a neighbor’s home. A judge ordered a competency evaluation in the case.

In 2017, Lezott had been arrested after she was kicked out of Dunkin’ Donuts at Southern Trace Plaza. She was allowed to enter into a pre-trial intervention program, thus avoiding prosecution.
