Man in golf cart arrested after alleged attack on couple in parking lot

A man in a golf cart was arrested after an alleged attack on a couple in the parking lot of Winn-Dixie at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

The couple flagged down police shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday and said they had been attacked by 41-year-old Keith Barnum, who lives with his mother on the Historic Side of The Villages.

Barnum had been driving in the golf cart when he began “harassing” the couple, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Barnum allegedly spit in the woman’s face and punched the man, leaving him with a cut over his left eye. When police arrived, blood as running down the man’s face.

Barnum was arrested on two counts of battery and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was also charged with violating his probation on a charge of disorderly intoxication. He was being held without bond.
