Fruitland Park man arrested on felony charges after alleged attack on wife

Steven Colin Slayton-Munday

A Fruitland Park man remained behind bars this weekend following his arrest on felony charges after an alleged attack on his wife in front of their children.

Fruitland Park police were called this past Wednesday night to a home in the 800 block of Chelsea Avenue where a woman said she had been involved in a physical altercation with 32-year-old Steven Colin Slayton-Munday. The woman who placed the call indicated she was outside with the children. She said she had been choked by her husband and was in fear for her life.

The woman said her husband, who was wearing a back brace, had mixed pills and alcohol. She took car keys from him and he retaliated by pushing her up against a door. She yelled for the children to get out of the home, according to the arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He also bit her twice.

When she had initially attempted to call 911, he took the phone away.

Officers located Slayton-Munday a short distance away, attempting to get into a taxi. He was arrested and initially taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center. Once he was medically cleared, he was arrested on felony charges of domestic battery by strangulation and depriving use of 911.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail. He was being held without bond as his previous bond from a driving under the influence charge was revoked.  He had been arrested in August at Sam’s Club in Lady Lake after he was spotted driving a mini-van in excess of 100 miles per hour.
