Suspected Nike shoe thief nabbed as he flees Kohl’s in stolen sneakers

A suspected Nike shoe thief was nabbed as he fled Kohl’s in a pair of stolen sneakers.

Jeffrey Hughes, 47, of Summerfield, entered the store at Village Crossroads on the afternoon of Veterans Day and selected the sneakers and a long-sleeve shirt, taking the items into a fitting room, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

He was wearing the Nike shoes when he came out of the fitting room and left the store without paying for them. Hughes was detained by a loss prevention officer until police arrived on the scene.

Hughes was issued a notice to appear in Lake County Court to answer to a charge of shoplifting. He also was banned from Kohl’s.
