Ocala man back behind bars in connection with deadly Summerfield DUI crash

Stephen Douglas Lynn

An Ocala man is behind bars on contempt of court charges in connection with a crash that killed three Summerfield residents – including two children – earlier this month.

Stephen Douglas Lynn, 48, was arrested Monday after his bail was revoked on three counts of DUI manslaughter, three counts of DUI property damage and one count of driving with a suspended license and causing death. He was being held on no bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set.

Lynn originally was arrested Nov. 7 after the crash on County Road 484 at County Road 467. Three people – 71-year-old Emilio Nunez, 9-year-old Nevaeh Nunez and 7-year-old Katalaya Nunez – died as a result of the crash.

Katalaya and Nevaeh Nunez

Emilio Nunez had been driving a 2003 Suzuki Vitara when his vehicle was struck by a Lynn’s 1999 Ford F350, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Lynn is accused of running a red light and striking the vehicle driven by Nunez, who had the green light. Nunez’s vehicle overturned and landed in a ditch, the report noted.

Three passengers in Lynn’s vehicle – 40-year-old Justin Lanzl of Hernando, 36-year-old Anthony Quirello of Belleview and 41-year-old Paul Watson of Belleview – suffered minor injuries. Lynn escaped injury, the report says.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the Nunez family.
