To the Editor:
In response to today’s post about enforcement, the issue is not just with businesses run from home, it’s enforcement of anything. The Villages doesn’t enforce anything unless there are complaints filed and then most/many complaints they accept anonymously. There are two ladies that we’ve seen in at least two villages that ride around with a clipboard writing things down and then entering complaints which only then are enforced.
There was a person that lived on Reading Road and was moving because he didn’t like The Villages, and he reported 35-38 homes for violations. Then Community Standards enforced those complaints from a resident who was leaving. None of this makes any sense at all. Community Standards should track all complaints to see if there is a pattern of certain people filing multiple complaints and not accept any without a name of the complainant.
I’m not saying to advise the homeowner of the complainant, but to track who/where the complaints come from. Right now there’s no thought by the department. Selective enforcement should be considered as unacceptable. Either enforce all the rules all the time or don’t.
