The daughter of a Villages couple has completed an anti-shoplifting class as part of court-ordered action following her arrest earlier this year at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.
Colleen Kelly, 41, who lives with her parents on Roswell Road in the Village of Polo Ridge, on Monday in Sumter County Court provided proof that she had completed the course, as well as 40 hours of community service. She had done so in order to escape prosecution on a charge of retail theft.
Kelly had been employed as an associate at the store on Aug. 21 when she loaded shopping bags with paper plates, Listerine mints, a candy bar, cinnamon rolls, crescent rolls, shredded cheese, Duncan Hines apple filling, eggs, Pampers Swaddlers and a 24-pack of Coca-Cola. The Staten Island, N.Y. transplant put the bags in a shopping cart and left through the auto department without paying for the items. The total value of the merchandise was $54.13.
