80-year-old patient at Villages Rehab alleges abuse by her husband

An 80-year-old patient at Villages Rehab has alleged an ongoing pattern of abuse by her husband.

The Lady Lake resident, who was admitted Nov. 8 to the care facility on County Road 466 in Lady Lake, reported that she has suffered for years from physical and verbal abuse from her husband, according to a report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

She said he has handed her a loaded weapon and urged her to kill herself. She also said she cannot get into bed by herself anymore and sits in a recliner. A commode had been set up for her, but she fell to the ground when trying to use it. She claimed her husband left her on the floor for a day. A neighbor came over and helped her back into the recliner.

A man who mows the grass persuaded the husband to call an ambulance for his wife. The husband showed up at the rehab facility and became violent. Staff contacted the Department of Children and Families. A check revealed he had been admitted as a patient at Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

The woman’s children live in California, Germany and Eustis, the report indicated.
