A woman was jailed early Tuesday morning after a Marion County sheriff’s deputy spotted a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a Summerfield internet café.
The deputy saw the burgundy Honda Civic in the parking lot of the business at 13685 S U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Summerfield and confirmed it had been reported stolen in Polk County. He entered the internet café and saw that the only customers were three women. He then spoke with the security guard, who confirmed that 24-year-old Melissa Tiffany Rose Harbor, of Summerfield, and another woman had just arrived in the Honda.
The other woman told the deputy Harbor had picked her up at her mother’s residence in the Honda. She said she didn’t know where the vehicle came from – only that Harbor was driving it.
A witness said the Honda was in the parking lot when she arrived, just minutes before deputy entered the business. But she said she saw Harbor exit the driver’s side of the vehicle and the other woman was the passenger, the report says.
Harbor first told the deputy she had no knowledge about the Honda, then said she and the other woman had arrived at the internet café in the vehicle but her husband had been driving. A deputy spoke to her husband on the phone and he reported leaving the vehicle in the parking lot and walking to a location he would not disclose, the report says.
Harbor was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and smuggling contraband into a detention facility. She was being held on $5,000 bond and is due in court Dec. 23 and Dec. 27 to answer to the charges.
