A Village of Fenney resident will lose his driver’s license for six months after being arrested earlier this year on charges of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.
Steven Edward Stein, 60, of 2794 Atamasco Lily Loop, was pulled over Sept. 3 while driving a vehicle with only one taillight on Main Street in Leesburg.
Stein was smoking a cigar when approached by a police officer, “likely to mask the odor of alcoholic beverages,” according to the arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. When Stein attempted to get out of the vehicle, he was staggering and leaned on the door for support. He struggled through field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .127 and .128 blood alcohol content.
Stein had .5 grams of marijuana in his pocket and was found to be in possession of a pipe for smoking marijuana. The Peoria, Ill. native told the officer he had consumed six beers and that prior to drinking he had one “hit” of marijuana, the report indicated.
Earlier this month in Lake County Court, he pleaded no contest in the case. In addition to losing his driver’s license for six months, he has been placed on probation for one year. He was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day already served.
