Villages resident flees in golf cart after knife threat to mother of his baby

John David Newell

A Villages resident fled in a golf cart after using a butcher knife to threaten the mother of his baby.

The baby’s mother told police that on Friday night she had been putting the baby into the car seat of a vehicle while at the home of 21-year-old John David Newell at 1701 Hilton Head Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Newell initially sat in the vehicle and indicated he wanted to go with the woman. She refused to take him.

Newell went into the home and came out with a butcher knife, the report said. He approached the woman and kept coming, even after she asked him to stop. He pointed the knife at her.

Newell got into a golf cart and fled the scene. When he was located by police, he pulled away and kicked at the officers as they attempted to handcuff him.

Newell was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $110,000 bond.

Earlier this year, Newell was sentenced to 12 hours of anger management training after leaving the same woman with a bloody nose in an altercation that also occurred on the Historic Side of The Villages.

In 2016, Newell was arrested after damaging his uncle’s golf cart, also on the Historic Side of The Villages.
