81-year-old on electric scooter struck and killed in Sumter County

An 81-year-old woman on an electric scooter was struck and killed by a pickup truck Wednesday evening in Sumter County.

Eva Albarran of Webster was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue in Webster attempting to cross State Road 471 at 5:55 p.m. when she was struck by a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by 78-year-old John Allen Crawford of Lakeland, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Albarran’s electric scooter traveled into the path of Crawford’s pickup truck which had been traveling northbound on State Road 471, the report said.

Albarran was pronounced dead at the scene.
