Homeless woman arrested for theft second time in Wildwood

Melissa Gordon

A homeless woman has been arrested for a second time after a theft at a store in Wildwood.

Officers were called shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday to the Dollar General store on Main Street after 39-year-old Melissa Marie Gordon fled with merchandise concealed in her purse, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A customer alerted store personnel to what had occurred.

A Wildwood police detective spotted Gordon, who fled the store on foot. The detective ordered Gordon to stop, but she kept going.

When she was captured, the stolen merchandise was found in her possession.

Gordon had been free on bond following her Nov. 30 arrest after allegedly stealing a sweatshirt from the Family Dollar store, also on Main Street in Wildwood.

Following Tuesday’s arrest on charges of theft and resisting arrest, Gordon was booked on $7,500 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
