Woman with heroin arrested at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages

Kathleen VanSant

A woman with heroin was arrested after a traffic stop in the parking lot at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.

Kathleen VanSant, 37, of Summerfield, had been riding as a passenger in a silver Mitsubishi which was pulled over Dec. 9 for not having taglights, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was driving on a suspended license and the car couldn’t be turned over to VanSant because she also did not have a valid license.

During an inventory of the vehicle, a small change purse containing heroin was found on the passenger side floorboard where VanSant had been sitting.

She was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $2,000 bond.

VanSant was arrested in 2017 after an incident involving stolen items and a U-Haul. She was arrested in 2016 after attempting to steal a shopping cart loaded with items at Wal-Mart in Summerfield.
