Bicyclist suffers broken bones in crash at Colony tunnel

To the Editor:

Valentine’s Day I was riding my bicycle to the gym at Colony.
I had lights on front and back.
I had reached the cart path just before the hill down to the tunnel by Colony that runs under 466A.  As I approached the tunnel on a straightaway I saw a cart approaching me headed westbound.  Suddenly a cart from behind me decided they did not want to wait, did not want to head-on the other cart and so attempted to pass me in the eastbound lane. In order to avoid being hit I swerved and as I re-entered the path my wheels slipped on the wet pavement. The cart that nearly hit me continued on its way.
I managed to hobble the rest of the way to the Colony Recreation Center.  While there I decided to forego my exercise and Valerie (thank you) went out of her way to give me a ride home.
After getting home I took the car back to get my bike and went to Colony Health. Three x-rays later they referred me to the Villages Specialty Center. Four more x-rays. I have two breaks in my lower fibula and will need to wear a boot for several weeks while I wait to see if it heals properly. I was scheduled to teach three dance classes during the rest of the month which I will now have to miss causing loss of enjoyment to many other villagers. To the unknown golf cart driver who did not slow or stop, I hope the 10 seconds you saved makes you happy.
