Publix grocery stores changing hours due to Coronavirus

All Publix locations will close at 8 p.m. nightly until further notice due to the Coronavirus. The change is effective today.

Florida’s largest grocery store chain announced it would give “our store teams time to conduct additional preventive sanitation and restock product on shelves.” Publix stores will continue to open at 7 a.m. each day.

A line formed at Publix at Colony Plaza.

Shoppers have been cleaning out store shelves, most notably stocking up on cleaning wipes and toilet paper.

“We are working tirelessly to have the items you need on our shelves. We have applied purchase limits on some key items to allow more customers to get what they need,” Publix said.

Publix at Spanish Springs was completely out of toilet paper and other paper goods on Friday.

Publix – with stores at Spanish Springs, Spanish Plaines, Southern Trace, Colony Cottage, Mulberry Grove, Lake Deaton and Grand Traverse Plaza in The Villages – is also pushing alternative shopping options such as delivery or curbside pickup of groceries and other items.

The stores have also instituted stepped-up sanitation efforts in the wake of COVID-19.
