Police track down former Wildwoood football player in reckless driving case

Keon Lamar Marsh

Wildwood police tracked down a former Wildwood football player who fled in a vehicle eight days earlier and allegedly endangered the public.

A white Chevrolet Impala had been spotted parked unattended in the roadway at about 4 p.m. March 21 at Peters and Lime streets, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Keon Leon Marsh, 19, was recognized from previous encounters with law enforcement as he rushed to the car and drove away. The former Wildwood High School football player, who stands 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 250 pounds, ran a stop sign and “hard accelerated” as he fled the scene.

“There were multiple vehicles on the roadway and multiple people were walking down the sidewalk when Marsh was driving recklessly. His actions while driving the vehicle displayed a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property,” the arrest report said.

The police officer discontinued the chase.

A police officer went at about 10:31 p.m. Sunday to a home on Mill Street where Marsh was taken into custody on a charge of reckless driving. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $500 bond.
