Doctor has warning about COVID-19 death rate

To the Editor:

I am a retired physician staying here in The Villages with family. Giving false hope that there is no community spread here is dangerous. Villagers did not begin to practice social distancing until seven days ago, and you are still playing golf. It takes a minimum of 14 days to begin to show any benefit of effective distancing. Data for The Villages suggests at least 30,000 cases and 1,000-5,000 deaths, depending on medical response ability. The long delay in social distancing will prove deadly.
