To the Editor:
When we visited my sister-in-law who lived here in 2008, the first place they took us to was Spanish Springs Town Square and Katie Belle’s, It was one of the deciding factors when we moved here in 2009. We loved the atmosphere and fun we had there on our very first visit and the people we met that were having such fun in “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.” Our friends that came to visit always wanted to go to Katie Belle’s and I have cousins that live in Ocala that always wanted to go to Katie Belle’s when they came to visit us here.
The Morses took away one of the most important defining places in our community for its residents.
AND, I am speaking of the original, not what is defined as Katie Belle’s now. There was a warmth and friendliness there that is no longer. I understand that profit must be made but the way it was designed was not a good one for people walking by and not even knowing that it existed up there on the second floor. The entire concept was a big, big mistake! So very sad to see it go completely, but we mourn the loss of the original which can’t be replaced.
