Villager arrested at Elan Buena Vista after alleged theft at sister’s home

Thomas Edward Steadman

A Villager was arrested at Elan Buena Vista Senior Living Center after an alleged theft at his sister’s home in The Villages.

A Village of Virginia Trace woman contacted law enforcement Tuesday morning and reported that she had received a notification on her phone from her security system at 4:50 a.m. indicating there was motion near her garage, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She reviewed the security footage and identified her brother, 69-year-old Thomas Edward Steadman of 1458 Irwin Way in the Village of Virginia Trace, as removing a security camera from her residence. He had arrived at her home in a white Atomic golf cart, the report indicated.

Steadman’s golf cart was spotted at about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot at Elan Buena Vista Senior Living Center on County Road 466. He was arrested on charges of theft and burglary. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $17,000 bond.

Elan Buena Vista Senior Living is located on County Road 466 in The Villages.

Steadman had several arrests in 2017 at GarVino’s in Lake Sumter Landing. Steadman was spotted July 20, 2017 sitting in a chair on the porch at the popular cigar and wine store. He had previously been banned from the store after two previous arrests there. Earlier in the month, Steadman was arrested after he was spotted smoking a cigar and drinking a beverage in the lounge area at GarVino’s. Prior to that, Steadman was arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal a cigar and lighter from GarVino’s. He was eventually placed on probation.
