Pair vulnerable to COVID-19 reportedly spit at by woman at mobile home park

Jeanne Craft

A man and woman vulnerable to COVID-19 contacted law enforcement after they were spit at by a female acquaintance at a mobile home park on State Road 44 in Wildwood.

The man and woman had been traveling in a golf cart at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Rail’s End mobile home park when they saw 51-year-old Jeanne Craft standing on the side of the road with her dog, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

When the couple drove past in the golf cart, Craft began cursing at them, leaned into the direction of the golf cart and spit at them, the arrest report said.

Both the victim and witness were fearful of the spit due to the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus and both are high risk for exposure,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

There had been an additional exchange earlier in the week between Craft and the woman, who is 70 years old.

Sumter County Court records indicate Craft was arrested in 2015 on a charge of battery. However, the case was not prosecuted because Craft completed an impulse control/anger management class as part of a pre-trial intervention deal.

Craft is now facing a charge of battery on a person over the age of 65. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
