An Oxford woman was jailed after allegedly abusing 911 during a bad breakup with her boyfriend.
Brandy Rignall, 39, summoned law enforcement to her home at 10112 NE Ninth St. in Oxford on the afternoon of May 17 and “advised that she was moving out of her home and she wanted a police escort,” according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
While a deputy was on the scene, Rignall continued to yell at and argue with her boyfriend. The deputy told Rignall to calm down and pack her belongings. Rignall told the deputy he was not “going to speak to her that way,” and she called 911, demanding to speak to the deputy’s supervisor. The deputy informed Rignall that was not the proper way to proceed and volunteered to call his supervisor. Rignall proceeded with the 911 call, even after being advised it was an improper use of 911.
At the time, Rignall was free on $42,000 bond following her arrest in March on multiple drug charges.
She was arrested on a charge of misuse of 911 and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
