Members of the Italian American Club have remained busy during the COVID-19 pandemic raising money to help others.
The club recently made donations to organizations in Wildwood and Belleview that help feed those in need. Club President Frank Truglio made the presentations of the $1,000 checks.
One of the donations went to the Wildwood Soup Kitchen, which Truglio said is temporarily closed but is planning to reopen soon. The kitchen serves thousands of meals per week and distributed about 1,800 snack packs to school-age children. Truglio presented the check to Don Schober, who serves on the board of directors for the facility.
Another donation went to St. Theresa Ministry soup kitchen and soup pantry in Belleview. Truglio said that group serves on average about 180 people per day, with each person getting a package containing one or more meals as needed for the family.
“On a daily basis, the pantry gives boxes containing a 2-week supply of food for a family to about 40 clients,” he said. “The clients deliver the boxes of food to about 125 families.”
Truglio presented to the donation to Mary Ann Gricar, assistant director of St. Theresa Social Services Ministry.
