Phyllis George famously dropped Miss America crown

To the Editor:

I was recently informed by seeing an editorial that our beloved Phyllis George had passed away. She was one of the most popular contestants of the Miss America Pageant to win the title and went on to establish a successful broadcasting career.
What a crowning moment. Who could ever forget that Saturday evening, Sept. 12, 1970 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City? Phyllis walked the runway as the newly crowned Miss America from Texas when the crown dropped on the runway. That was history making for sure.
America loved her.
